We currently have 63 swimmers who have not declared for the upcoming Mock Meet.
Please take a moment to indicate whether your child(ren) will or will not be participating. This is essential for us to prepare accurate heat sheets.
Deadline to declare is tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
You should have received an email from Swimmingly with instructions on how to complete the declaration process.
For this Mock Meet (scheduled for next Tuesday), swimmers may sign up for up to three individual events. Please note: no relays will be included in this meet.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this!

It was wonderful to see so many swimmers at practice last night—especially watching them reconnect after time apart and catch up with friends from different schools. One thing I forgot to mention in previous emails: please be sure to clean up after yourself and return any chairs to their original spot before you leave. Thank you to all the parents who assisted in resetting the space before we closed up for the night.
Declaration of Swimmer(s) – Mock Meet
You should have received an email from Swimmingly about the process of how to declare your swimmer for the Mock Meet next Tuesday. You must take action if your child(ren) will or will not be participating. Typically, swimmers are allowed to participate in up to three individual events and two relays, but for this event, each swimmer will select up to three individual events. No relays will take place during this meet.
WHY a MOCK MEET?
This meet is a great way for swimmers to enter their first meet feeling more comfortable and having entry times for the meets. Having times entering meets is helpful to ensure your swimmer(s) are seeded correctly. If you are unsure what to select, you are welcome to ask the coaches. Declarations are due by 2 PM on Saturday, June 7.
We’re still looking for additional volunteers—and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn the different roles before our first official meet!
Join us this Thursday for a parent meeting, where we’ll also have stations set up to help you get familiar with the volunteer positions, ensure you’ve downloaded the necessary apps to track your swimmer’s results, and sign up to help during meets.
The Mock Meet will begin as close to 7:20 PM as possible. Please have swimmers arrive by 7:10 PM to begin warm-ups.
SHARPIES!
Sharpies and swim meets go together like peanut butter and jelly! For each meet, swimmers will need to write their swimmer number on their body. It’s also helpful to include their event numbers, heats, and lanes.
We’ll share more details soon, but I wanted to give our new swim families a heads-up so you’re ready!
If you’ve signed up to help with setup, we’ll have access to the pool starting at 6:20 PM. Please remind family members that guests will not be allowed in the pool area until the main gates officially open. It’s much easier to complete setup without extra people in the space—this will also be the procedure during home meets.

Important Reminders to Kick Off the Season
Board Members
Our board is made up of dedicated volunteers who also work full-time and have kids in the pool, just like you. We appreciate your kindness and patience as they work hard behind the scenes to make this season great! Interested in becoming a board member? Reach out! We try and set up under the covering next to the garage so that we are easy to find.
Broadway Pool
We are guests at the Broadway Pool, and it’s important that we all respect the space and staff. Please be especially mindful of pool rules—no dogs are allowed within the gates.
Swim Practices
The first week can feel a bit hectic—especially with only evening practices before school ends and vacations begin. During this time, coaches will assess each swimmer to place them in the appropriate lane based on their skill and endurance.
A few key things to know:
- Use the side gate, entrance near the playground when entering for practices and meets
- There is no required number of practices to participate in meets.
- However, the more your swimmer practices, the stronger and faster they’ll become!
- No practices are held on Friday nights.
- Swimmers may not enter the pool before 7:20 PM, unless otherwise noted.
- Bookmark our calendar for schedules and updates: www.bwaysharks.com
Swim Meets
Swimmers are not required to attend every meet, but to be eligible for CHAMPS, they must participate in at least two regular swim meets (Mock Meet doesn’t count) this season. The Mock Meet is used to get swimmers comfortable for the upcoming meets, as well as a time, so they are seeded properly.
Optional Purchases
Keep an eye on your inbox! You’ll soon receive emails about the following items that are optional to purchase for your swimmer(s)/family members.
Swim Caps
We’ll have Broadway logo swim caps available for $10 each.
If you prefer to purchase your own cap, please make sure it’s solid green or black to match the team colors.
Shark Gear
Gear will be ordered directly through SwimOutlet. Once you register for the 2025 season, you will receive an email on how to log in as a member for the best experience.
Annual T-Shirts
Each year, swimmers design and vote on the official team shirt!
- Use plain 8.5″ x 11″ paper (no lined paper).
- Designs must be two colors or fewer.
- Digital or hand-drawn designs are welcome!
- Submit to bwaysharks@gmail.com by Thursday, June.
- The voting deadline for swimmers is June 16.
- Orders are due by June 20.
Equipment
- Pull Buoy – We have several available, but if you want one for your swimmer to take home and practice with, you can purchase your own
- Fins – We have several available, but if you want to purchase your own to ensure your swimmer has their size, you can purchase your own
CHAMPS Ads
Want to give your swimmer(s) or your company a shout-out? Purchase an ad in the CHAMPS booklet! Prices range from $25 (quarter page) to $100 (full page).
Request for iPhones Compatible with iOS 16 or Higher
The system we use to run swim meets only works with iOS version 16 or later. Previously, we had loaner phones available for volunteers who didn’t have compatible devices, but those are no longer supported.
We’re now looking for older iPhones that support iOS 16 or higher and might be sitting unused in your drawer. These phones will help our team by serving as backups for timers and stroke & turn judges.
If you have a device you’re willing to donate or lend, please email us at bwaysharks@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting the team!
Volunteering
Huge thanks to those who’ve already signed up! If you haven’t yet, remember: each family is expected to volunteer at least twice this summer. It takes a team to make everything run smoothly!

Good evening,
This is the beginning of many Sunday evening emails as we are gearing up for the season! I will continue sending emails to the 2025 and 2024 rosters until sign-ups conclude, so everyone is getting the same information.
PRACTICE UPDATES
Morning practices will not begin until Monday, June 9, 2025
VOLUNTEERS
It is great to be where we are with volunteer signups! Thank you!
Those new to swim team will see volunteer spots named Events 1-30 and then 31-End. We divide volunteer roles midway through each meet. You can refer to the order of events here for more details. The number of heats per event can vary depending on the size of the team we’re competing against, as some teams are smaller than others.
Swim meets begin at 6:00 PM and must conclude by 10:00 PM. That said, over the past few seasons, we’ve typically wrapped up and cleared out by around 9:15 PM.
EQUIPMENT/TEAM GEAR
We don’t require the purchase of equipment, team bathing suits, etc. However, here are some guidelines/suggestions on things you should have.
- Meet Bathing Suits: Must be one piece. Our colors are green and black, so I encourage swimmers to have those colors on their bathing suits. They can be either all green, all black, or a mix.
- Practice Bathing Suits: Must be one piece.
- Swim Caps: Team swim caps will be on sale for $10 at the beginning of the season.
- Shark Gear: When you sign up, you will get an email with more information. However, in summary, instead of ordering gear from board members, orders/payments will be placed directly with Swimoutlet. 5% of sales come back to our team.
- Googles: You can purchase any that work for your swimmer(s), we just ask that they only cover their eyes.
- Fins: Fridays are known as ‘Fin Fridays,’ when swimmers practice using fins. While our team has a good supply available, we can’t guarantee we will have a pair of your swimmer’s size.
GRADUATING SENIOR?
If you will be graduating from High School this June, please respond to this email as VSL has a scholarship opportunity.
STROKE & TURN JUDGE TRAINING
We can’t compete in meets without certified Stroke & Turn officials. This is a great way to get involved and enjoy the best view of the action! No registration needed, and it’s free to attend!
May 29 | 6-7 PM | James Madison University, Hartman Hall, Room 1000
Stroke & Turn IN-PERSON (Highly recommended for new judges)
Parking is available right across from Hartman Hall in the P lot. Enter through the main doors, turn left when you arrive in the lobby, and the room will be in the back left corner.

Hi Sharks Families,
If you’re receiving this email twice, it’s because you’ve already registered for the 2025 season—thank you! I wanted to make sure both returning and new families have all the key updates.
Fundraisers: Ducks are Back
With only two home meets this year (instead of three), our fundraising income is reduced. To help close the gap, we’re bringing back the Duck Races!
We’re looking for 10 race sponsors at $125 each. Sponsors will be featured on race tickets and recognized on Facebook. Please contact me at 540-908-0624 if you have a business that is interested.
More information to come about this after we get race sponsors.
Concessions
Thanks to Double Dragon, one home meet will have its main course covered. For the other, we’ll rely on food donations, as we’ve done in the past.
Volunteers Needed
Each family is asked to volunteer at least three times during the season. Swimming meets only happen with your help! If you don’t sign up, we’ll assign you a role later in the season.
Already signed up? THANK YOU!
Volunteer Opportunities:
- Meets: Many roles require little or no training.
Learn More & Sign Up – Volunteer Information – Sharks - Bathrooms: Not glamorous, but essential. Help us meet our agreement with the town by signing up to check/restock/clean bathrooms before practice.
Sign Up for Bathroom Duty
Even simple things—like reminding your child to flush, wipe the seat, and keep the restroom tidy—go a long way!

Contract with Town of Broadway:
Again this year, we have a contract with the Town of Broadway as we use their pool. Erica Kann is the liaison between the swim team and both the pool and town. Jane Villard will be the liaison between the swim team and the pool during swim meets as Erica will most likely be absent during most swim meets. Below are highlights from the contract:
- No one is allowed inside the pool area before 7:10 PM
- All chairs and pool equipment must be returned to their original position
- Inspect and tidy/clean bathrooms and other spaces within the gated area before departure
- No one is allowed inside the pool area before 4 PM on home swim meet days. Pool staff will provide permission when we can enter.
Cancellations:
We will do our best to notify you of practice cancellations as early as possible. Cancellations are due to weather (storms) or unexpected pool maintenance. Practice is held if it is just raining and there is visibility at the bottom of the pool. The Broadway Sharks uses the RemindMe as our communication platform. Download the Remind App; Class Name is Broadway Sharks 2024 (if you were in the Broadway Sharks 2023 you are still in the group); Class Code @bwaysharks.

It’s that time again! Time to get geared up for the Broadway Sharks Summer League swim season; over the next several days emails will be sent focusing on different information about the upcoming season.
New Swimmers –
If you know of any new families looking to join the team and are unsure of the child’s ability, next Tuesday, May 28, we will be having Test the Waters. Please encourage them to sign up here and check the website for more information about the season. Registration will be open through Friday, June 7.
First Week Practice –
We will only have one practice next week which will be on Thursday, May 30. Please note we don’t have swim practices on Friday evenings.
7:00-8:00PM Little Sharks (10 & Under) When arriving for evening practices, please meet in the grassy area between the pool and playground outside the pool area. Coaches will begin stretching the
swimmers there as pool staff will be closing the pools to customers. Access to the pool area for swimmers/guests begins at 7:10PM.
8:00-9:00PM Big Sharks (11 & Up) When arriving for evening practices, please meet in the grassy area between the pool and playground inside the pool area. Coaches will begin stretching the swimmers there.
Swimming Gear:
We do not require team suits. Girls should have one-piece bathing suits. Boys should have swimsuits with no shirts. Our colors are green/black. SwimOutlet is a great place to find cheap bathing suits. Our team store – https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/bwaysharks?frm=fyt
Coaches will do some training with fins later in the season. We have some for swimmers, but if you would like to purchase your own to ensure they fit, you are more than welcome to.
Swim caps are recommended, we have Broadway Sharks swim caps for sale once we receive them.
Volunteering:
The registration has been updated, there is no fee if you do not volunteer; however, we expect ALL families to volunteer at least two (2) times during the season. Volunteer opportunities can be found here.
New Logo –
We are excited to share the new logo for the Broadway Sharks. A big shout out to Jenn Dove for making this happen.

Test the Water night is a ‘tryout’ for new swimmers. The coaches can evaluate the swimmer’s abilities. They will be evaluating the swimmers’ willingness to put their face in the water, how they listen to instruction, willingness to attempt a 25M swim (one length of the pool) and completing a 25M with stopping less than three times. Swim Team: Test the Waters 2024 (signupgenius.com)
Please understand that swimming for a swim team is much different than your child(ren) swimming in the pool all afternoon.
My youngest went through this process two years ago and it was clear she was not ready for the swim team.
Please make sure your child has a bathing suit, goggles, and their hair pulled back.
